Rockin Around The Christmas Tree...

I wasn’t exactly sure if we would be able to find time to decorate for Christmas this year – we did skip Labor Day, Halloween and traveled to Minnesota for Thanksgiving. Our track record was so bad I had little hope, but we found some time and had a really great day decorating. Matt and I went to a local nursery to pick our tree, we didn’t take time to hike out in the woods to get a tree, instead for this year we opted for the warmer option of picking a fresh cut one from their selection. At the nursery the tree looked perfect in height, shape and width – so we got it bundled and threw it in the back of the Volvo. It almost seemed too good to be true, I have spent hours at Geli’s Nursery looking for a perfect tree, and this took us less than 20 min from start to finish. We got the tree home gave it a fresh cut and put it in the tree stand – that is where the ease of the day ended. For some reason the tree weighed twice as much on the one side and no matter how we positioned it in the tree stand it listed to the heavy side. We would make it perfect walk into another room and minutes later we would check on it and it was leaning again. Finally, Matt was able to make it stand tall with some additional clipping of the low hanging branches and about 40 pounds of hand weights on the base. Of course the entire time we were working on the tree I kept picturing National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and wondering when I was going to have tree sap in my hair and look out the window to see Matt with his hockey helmet on, cutting down a tree with his chain saw. Luckily it did not come to that.
