Christmas 2015

We had a bright, sunny and warm Christmas this year.  It was hard for Lilly to believe that Santa could still arrive without the snow, but that was quickly forgotten, when she woke up to a train circling the tree in her bedroom.  The rest of the day was filled with fun, laughter and extreme comic relief from Lillian and Emma.

Practically Perfect In Every Way

We had our first snowfall of the season and Lilly was ready to get out and play.  It is always the best type of snow, when it is not sub zero and you can be outside for more than 2 minutes.  So two hours later and soaking wet, Lilly was ready to come in after she assisted in making a Lilly Snowgirl and Ella the Snowdog.  Later that same night we went to see Mary Poppins at the FHFAC and she was tickled to see that Mary could really fly... and even better Mary and Jane were our neighbors.  We live in a Practically Perfect place.

Big Saturday Night Party ... Crazy Fun!

We have all out rowdy Saturday nights nowadays.. this year's pre-hunting party featured: homemade cookies, apple bars, sliding on our bellies, hopping around and playing kitchen.  To be honest, I'm not sure how different it was from the old hunting parties I used to go to at the Horosko Homestead.. back then it was working in the kitchen to make yummy food, dancing around to a choreographed song that we picked, sliding down the basement stairs and eating cookies and apple pie.  So, I guess the city hasn't take that much away from the country experience.

That Is Enough Halloween For This Year...

Lilly has Matt's love of Halloween and this year, she really got to enjoy it as we celebrated it three days in a row.  First the Harvest Party at school, followed by the Haunting of Heather Hills at the local retirement community and finally the actual day of Halloween around the Hollow.

Fall Carnival in Concord

As much as I am not a fan of Halloween, I do remember really enjoying the Halloween Carnival that they had at school when I was growing up.  This year Lilly got to see what that was all about with GiGi and Papa.

Great Time At Great Wolf Lodge & The Lilly Teaching Conference

This past weekend I had the opportunity to present at the Lilly Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning Conference in Traverse City.  It was a great conference to attend and it was a great get-away for Matt and Lilly, too.  While I was presenting and learning, Matt and Lilly enjoyed lots of fun at The Great Wolf Lodge.  And I managed to spare away several hours at night to have fun with them too.

Time For A Playdate, Time For A Playdate...

It was time for a playdate, sung in the tune of DocMcStuffins time for a check up.  These two had such a good day, playing kitchen, Barbie princesses, dress-up, hide from the rain in the folding table fort and of course DocMcStuffins....

First Day of Preschool Four's

Lilly had a wonderful first day of four year old preschool, or as the cool kids call it: Pre-K.  Lilly loves pre-K, her teacher Ms. Gabby has the kiddos start their day out with daily assignments, weather, calendar and daily topic.  Lilly adores being weather girl and DJ and is least fond of chair captain.  It has started to become tradition that on my first night of class and Lilly's first day of school, Matt and her go out to dinner to have a special date; this year was Steak and Shake.

Grandma's Morning At School

This past Friday preschool had a special morning for Grandmas.  GiGi loaded up Lillian and Emma and headed out for a morning full of doughnuts, foam stickers and fish.  Based on the pictures, it looks like the girls, young and old, had a good time.

A Very Special Trip

We made a very special trip to Idaho ... it was Lillian's first airplane ride, her first time to Washington State, first time to Idaho and first time seeing a Moose.

Nothing Like A Country Fair Day

This year's fair experience was at the Hudsonville Fair.  GiGi and Papa got to take Lilly to the fun, while I had to help administrate the TERP10 Exam.  This was smaller that the usual JCF, but it had charm... nothing like a Cat Show, Goat Agility, Goats dressed up like their "person" and bunny agility to make a fair fun!

Back-To-School Carnival

It is so hard to believe that the Summer is almost over, and it is even harder to believe that Lilly will be starting her 4 year old preschool and her last year at our beloved school.  To celebrate back-to-school they hosted a really fun carnival for the kids.  Lilly was over the moon excited to see her friends and to play all the games.

Busted at Dave and Busters

While Lilly and I were at swimming, we thought Matt was at work, but we found out he was at a work bachelor party for Matt's firmware engineer Brian.  Lilly just could not miss an opportunity for a party.  You know those are her favorite things to attend!  So, we joined the party after swim lessons and had a great time.

A Quick Visit UP North

It is always fun to enjoy the beautiful state that we live in, this past weekend we vacationed with Grandma and Grandpa Knoll and took a quick trip North.  It was a surprisingly warm weekend and it was a perfect time to be on the lakes and adventuring around Mackinaw Island and the Soo.

Nothing Like A Homemade Meal ... That Someone Else Makes...

It used to be a yearly tradition, but lately it hasn't been as easy to visit Middlebury.  But we still attempt to visit as often as we can.  There is something very comforting in a family style dinner featuring the same food for over 30 years and something very exciting to see a little barn shaped restaurant turn into a giant destination.

4th of July Fun

It was a wonderful long 4th of July weekend filled with work on the house, family time, fireworks, dinners and friends.  These are some of my favorite times of the Summer.

Summer Favorites .. Swimming & Nutella

We have had some amazing Summer swimming days, both at home and at Swim School.  There is nothing better, in my opinion, then spending the day in the sun and by the water.  Lilly would agree, but she would also claim that there needs to be, at least a taste of, Nutella in her day.  In fact in this photo she is showing off her bathing suit from Auntie Katie and her giant Nutella grin.  Of course, I'm a fan of Nutella in the Summer, because that stuff is so sticky and messy, I am sure it cannot be real food and it can only be eaten OUTSIDE.

Lilly's Secret Room

Checking the house projects off the list, after a month of traveling, it has been a week of buckling down and getting things done.  Lillian is super excited that one of the projects checked off the list is her secret room.  All the "mama-work" is done, now all that is left is for her to move in her doll furniture, couch and various things that she "needs."

Disney Vacation 2015

Remember, we must always believe in our wishes, for they are the magic in the world.  Now, let's all put our hearts together, and make a wish come true.

Elsa - Runs Simple

I spent the last week attending Sapphire Now with 5 Grand Valley State University Students and 2 colleagues.  Lillian got to spend the whole week with GiGi and Papa, so that Matt could get some work done around the house, overall it was a Win-Win-Win.  I found a little stow-away in my carry on that must have been put there by Lilly, so I thought I would take Elsa with me and send photos back to Lilly to give her an idea of what we were up too...

A Spring Project Weekend

This past weekend was the perfect time to pick a project or two and get things done.  May is going to be almost, non-existent with birthday parties, conferences, trips to the beach and Disney, and graduations.  So, we figured we might as well use April to our fullest advantage, especially now that my school year is over.

Easter 2015

What a delightful Easter Celebration we had.  Namma was even able to be released from the hospital, so that she could join us.  It is very funny to see how Emma and Lilly interact with each other and nothing more fun then seeing them like each other's gifts better.  AHH, you can never win as the Easter Bunny.

Happy Galentine's Day

It is becoming apparent that if you could buy just channels and not cable packages, our house would be the perfect customer... or in the imperfect customer for the cable company.  I don't think our house has gotten hooked on a network primetime show in years ... probably since 2010 to be exact.  It is just too hard to pry ourselves away from DIY, FYI, HGTV, etc..  So, it will come as no surprise that I am just now fully embracing the idea of Galentine's Day.  Sorry, Parks and Recs fans.  This year we invited Emma over for a Galentine's Day celebration.

Library Play Date

I just adore our Library System in Kent County, they have really made it easy for children to fall in love with the library.  Shandi and Lilly had a play date at our usual branch and for 2 solid hours, they didn't stop imagining, dancing, role playing and laughing.  What a treat that they can do all of that in a library where noise is welcomed in the Kids area and there are enough "centers" to keep little ones engaged.

We Have The Creeps In This House

Scope creep (also called requirement creep and feature creep) in project management refers to uncontrolled changes or continuous growth in a project’s scope.  We specialize in Scope Creep in this house.  Our most recent project started with the idea to connect an unused closet to Lilly's current closet to make a fun secret hiding place.  In the process of connecting the two closets and closing the door off it would create a bed wall, which is non-existent in the master.  Easy right!

Papa's Spiderman Birthday Party

Lilly was the official party planner for Papa's birthday party.  When we were talking about Papa's party she suggested that we go with the Spiderman theme.  I'm not too sure where she came up with that idea, but I assume it has something to do with the Boy Birthday Parties at school.  So, we picked out Spiderman Masks, a banner and plates.  Papa even wore a Spiderman shirt to support the theme.  The only downside was the fear that Emma experienced when people wore their Spiderman masks ... I'm thinking Disney might be a little rough for her in May,
